This new online course equips practitioners with the knowledge and skills to conduct a patient-centred assessment for people who present with common mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, and to improve the availability of psychological therapies.

New RCGP Essential Knowledge Update

The RCGP has just released the latest Essential Knowledge Update (EKU 4) and you are invited to take part in this vital tool to help you realise your CPD and Revalidation commitments.

Essential Knowledge Updates are self assessment e-learning modules of new and changing information relating to key areas of national significance for GPs (e.g. NICE & SIGN guidelines).

Essential Knowledge Update 4 consists of 8 major topics and 20 briefings focusing on new and changing information that relates to key clinical areas of national significance and has been prioritised from a search spanning December 2008 to July 2009.

New RCGP Essential Knowledge Challenge

Take the latest RCGP Essential Knowledge Challenge (EKC), an engaging online test of the latest knowledge in general practice. On the 6^th October 2009 the RCGP released the 3^rd EKC assessment, consisting of 50 multiple choice questions based on the accompanying Essential Knowledge Update 3, a six-monthly update on selected items of new and changing knowledge in general practice.

As with previous Challenges, if you score 70% or more you can print out a certificate to add to your appraisal folder.

We hope you will find the Challenge a useful tool for self-assessment of your pre-existing and newly retained knowledge you have gained from the online updates.

Essential Knowledge Package

The RCGP’s Essential Knowledge package is now available. This consists of the Essential Knowledge Update (EKU), a six-monthly update of new and changing knowledge, and the Essential Knowledge Challenge (EKC), a 50 question MCQ assessment based on the update. The package will be available free of charge to RCGP Members and Associates in Training as a key benefit of membership. Non-RCGP members will be able to subscribe for an annual subscription of £79.

Each Essential Knowledge Update will provide GPs with a structured learning activity that will enable them to assimilate and apply new and changing knowledge, relevant to their clinical practice, as part of their Continuing Professional Development. EKU 3 has been launched in May 2009 and focuses on new and changing information that had been identified from a search spanning July to December 2008. Pilots EKU 1 and 2 are also available on this website.
