This course aims to introduce the concept of point of care testing in primary care. While history taking and examination are an essential part of a general practitioner’s consultation and decision making process, diagnostic testing is also an important component of primary care. Over the last twenty years, the promise of rapid point of care testing (or near patient testing) has finally become a reality, and a wide range and growing number of near patient tests are now available in an affordable format.
