Influenza (flu) is an acute respiratory illness, caused by several influenza viruses, which usually create annual outbreaks during the winter months. There are multiple strains (A,B,C and D), of which A is the most common, most transmissible, and most likely to cause outbreaks or pandemics. This course will give an introduction into influenza the disease and its vaccination, particularly risk groups, the vaccines available and anti-viral medication. This course falls within the Infectious Disease & Travel Health curriculum field. |
