Having an awareness of finance in general practice falls under the curriculum field of leadership, management and administration. GP partners are business owners as well as clinicians; understanding how the NHS is funded overall, and general practice in particular, is essential in optimising care. This course gives an overview of the state of NHS funding in the UK and the financial challenges faced by general practice and looks at the different sources of income that practices may receive. By developing an understanding of contractual duties in the general practice setting, and at the interface with other services, GPs can make informed decisions on how best to make use of the resources that they have. Lord Darzi recognised the exemplary financial efficiency of general practice in his 2024 report, and this course considers the key components in providing a cost-effective service. Production, editorial, and distribution owned by the Royal College of General Practitioners.
