The prevalence of ketamine use has increased markedly over the past few years, with the number of people seeking treatment for ketamine use disorder increasing 12-fold over the past decade. Patients often have additional medical problems relating to those outside of the addiction itself and at times can present with a complex array of symptoms.
This webinar will give an overview of ketamine use disorder and the associated ketamine uropathy to enable you to identify and manage patients with the disorder presenting in your practice. It is hoped that the session will not only improve your knowledge on the subject but encourage a more joined up approach between medical services, to ultimately improve patient outcomes and reduce adverse events in this vulnerable and young cohort of patients.
Learning objectives:
- Gain an understanding of how people who use ketamine may present to primary care.
- Expand knowledge of the pathophysiology of ketamine use disorder, including the multi-systemic effects, effects on the urinary tract and pain consequences.
- Deepen understanding of how one might assess, triage and manage someone presenting with ketamine use in the primary care setting.
- Develop knowledge on assessing risk and delivering harm reduction advice to people who use ketamine.
- Build knowledge on the management of ketamine uropathy in primary care and when to refer to urology services
- Consider effective joined-up working between clinical services
