Managing medical complexity, which includes dealing with multimorbidity, clinical uncertainty and risk, is a well‑recognised challenge in primary care and is often greater in rural settings. This module is designed to support GPs in considering what is involved in providing rural primary care and explore the factors which influence the provision of complex long-term care. Learners will gain an understanding of the challenges associated with managing medically complex care at the level of the clinician, the practice, the community and the broader health economy. Tackling these challenges will, in the long run, enhance the quality, efficiency, and safety of primary care in rural populations. Given that approximately 18% of the UK population resides in rural areas, this module responds to the distinct demands of providing care to a large proportion of the UK population.
