This course will discuss the epidemiology and science behind the rising rates of obesity and overweight, including the role of genetics and the metabolic set point theory. It will also cover practical aspects of the management of obesity and overweight, including how to have an effective consultation and which therapies are available both on the NHS and privately. In usual conversation the word ‘overweight’ is used as an adjective, however those who work in the field use it as a noun i.e. to describe the disease of overweight. This course will do the same.

Novo Nordisk has provided funding to the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to cover the costs of the development of the RCGP’s obesity hub and the obesity eLearning resources within the hub. Novo Nordisk has had no influence over the creation, development and content of the obesity hub, and full editorial control remains the sole responsibility of the RCGP.
