500 GP practices in the UK have achieved Active Practice status
The RCGP is thrilled to announce over 500 GP practices have taken up the Active Practice Charter (APC) initiative. All have demonstrated that they improve physical activity opportunities and reduce sedentary behaviour for staff and patients, as well as partnering with a local physical activity provider.
A group of practices supported by Chippenham, Corsham and Box (CCB) PCN helped us reach the landmark number.
Drawing attention to how your PCN or local health board can support you with your initiatives, Claire Bryant, Living Well Team Leader in CCB PCN said "we realised how many of the APC criteria our practices were already doing, including interventions being delivered by social prescribers from the PCN, such as picnic in the park, staff wellbeing walks and park yoga.
"Building on initiatives being undertaken by practices already, the Living Well team work hard to find local partners who can support health & wellbeing through physical movement and mental health support, particularly areas with identified health inequalities where we can us holistic and preventative interventions.
"We are so pleased to have a great relationship with our GP practices and we're proud to support them achieve the APC."
Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi and Dr Callum Leese, RCGP Physical Activity and Lifestyle Project Clinical Champions, said: "We are delighted that we have reached this incredible milestone - what a fantastic achievement for all 500 practices and counting! It represents the dedication of all the people who have contributed, and who recognise the importance of movement to all our health and wellbeing.
"Whether you are already an Active Practice or otherwise, we encourage everyone to check out the RCGP Physical Activity Hub and download the toolkit to learn more about physical activity in general practice."
