Gynaecology and Women’s Health Hub
This hub includes modules on cancer of the endometrium, cervix, vulva and ovary, as well as prevention of, and screening for, breast cancer. The course on endometriosis discusses the presentation, management and initial decision-making process around when to refer for a diagnosis. There is also a course on heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) which covers the current guidelines and how to assess the risk of endometrial pathology. Courses highlight when symptoms such as bloating might need to prompt a referral to exclude cancer and there is also an update on cervical screening and how regular smear tests can reduce cancer of the cervix.
The contraception course uses an interactive approach, case studies and videos to educate about each method, common myths and how to refute them, and broader issues including quick start and bridging. ‘The menopause and the perimenopause – a generalist’s guide’ discusses the identification and management of the menopause and perimenopause, what women need to know about HRT and how to start it, as well as features that apply to women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), many of whom will need referral.
The hub also contains podcasts, some of which cover the same subjects as the courses but from a different angle - where there is a podcast and a course, it is worth accessing both resources. Resources for women who are pregnant, or breastfeeding include screencasts on lactational atrophic vulvovaginitis, vaccines in pregnancy and nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. There are also podcasts on other subjects, such as influenza (flu) vaccination in pregnant women, and women’s health and migraine.
