Getting the most from the TARGET toolkit

The personal information we collect and use during activities associated with the TARGET toolkit include:

• full name
• email address
• information about your role

The personal information about you collected by the TARGET team is used by us in the following ways, dependent on what activity you have provided your contact details for. TARGET contact list

When signing up for the TARGET contact list you can opt in to:

• Receive the quarterly TARGET newsletter
• Being contacted by the TARGET team to ask your advice about your area of expertise
• Receiving updates to the TARGET resources
• Invite you to participate in our research or to review TARGET resources
• Receive information from us about third parties that might be relevant for your professional role

Stakeholder communication and feedback

We will collect personal information if you are involved in a TARGET project or provide feedback as part of a review or public consultation of a resource or guidance. This may be written or verbal feedback provided during a meeting or focus group/interview. If you are contributing to a formal consultation or as part of a steering/working group, your name and professional role may be acknowledged, on resources or in consultation reports. However, we will ask for your permission before we do this.

TARGET training roll out

If you have provided your information in connection with the TARGET training rollout, your personal information will be used to:

• issue you a personalised html TARGET training certificate via email
• (with your consent) add you to the TARGET contact list
• (with your consent) contact you in the future in relation to the TARGET training you attended

The results of the TARGET training roll out will determine if national TARGET training has an impact on antibiotic prescribing and support the achievement of the UK Antimicrobial Resistance National Action Plan.

The personal information you provide is protected in a number of ways.

It is stored on computer systems that have been tested to make sure they are secure and which are kept up-to-date to protect them from viruses and hacking. Where we share your personal information with other organisations (TARGET training roll out only), we only ever do so using secure computer systems or encrypted email.

Your information used by us can only be seen by staff who have been specifically trained to protect your privacy. Strong controls are in place to make sure all these staff can only see the minimum amount of personal information they need to do their job.

Whenever possible, we only use your information in a form that does not directly identify you. For the purpose of evaluating the impact of the TARGET training roll out, your name and email address will be removed.

If you consent to being added to our contact list and/or consent to being contacted in future about the TARGET training roll out, your details will be added to dedicated, secure databases. We will only use your name and email address for these purposes.

If you take part in ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions and will be delivering TARGET training in your Integrated Care Board (ICB), Primary Care Network (PCN) or a GP Practice, your name and email address will be added to a dedicated, secure database of accredited TARGET trainers. No information that could identify individual people is ever published by UKHSA.

All personal information used by TARGET Antibiotics is held in the UK only.

If you have provided your personal information for the TARGET contact list or as part of a stakeholder communication and feedback activity, your information will not be shared with any other organisations. If you give permission, your name and role may be included next to feedback in published consultation documents or acknowledged in published resources. If warranted you will be asked for permission in the digital feedback form used through a consultation or through steering/working group meeting communications.

If you are involved in the TARGET training rollout we may share your personal information with other organisations to support the delivery of the TARGET training roll out. If we do share your personal information, we only do so where the law allows and we only share the minimum necessary amount of information.

If you take part in a ‘Train the Trainer’ session and will be delivering TARGET training in your ICB, PCN or a GP Practice, your name, email address, role and ICB/PCN will be shared via the accredited TARGET trainer database with NHS England to enable the effective cascade of training.

If you take part in a session that is not a ‘Train the Trainer’ session, your personal information will not be shared with other organisations.

UKHSA may share anonymised information from the TARGET training roll out with other researchers subject to relevant legislative and ethics controls.

The personal information for TARGET accredited trainers is kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to be an accredited trainer. You can be removed from our accredited trainer list by sending an email to TARGETAntibiotics@ukhsa.gov.uk. We will contact accredited trainers annually to confirm you are happy for us to continue to store your personal details on our accredited trainer database.

The personal information you provide as part of the pre and post session survey will be kept for the duration of the national target training roll out and evaluation which will be no longer than 3 years.

The personal information used for the TARGET contact list is kept until you notify us that you no longer wish to be on our contact list. You can be removed from our mailing list by sending an email to TARGETAntibiotics@ukhsa.gov.uk or by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the newsletter.

Continued storage of personal information linked to TARGET consultations and projects will be reviewed every three years with a view to destroy material when it is no longer required.

Under data protection law, you have a number of rights over your personal information. You have the right to:

• ask for a copy of any information we hold about you
• ask for any information we hold about you that you think is inaccurate to be changed
• ask us to restrict our use of your information, for example, where you think the information we are using is inaccurate
• object to us using any information we hold about you, although this is not an absolute right and we may need to continue to use your information – we will tell you why if this is the case
• delete any information we hold about you, although this is not an absolute right and we may need to continue to use your information – we will tell you why if this is the case

• ask us not to use your information to make automated decisions about you without the involvement of one of our staff

You will be asked to provide proof of your identity so that we can be sure we only provide you with your information.

The law on protecting personal information, known as the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), allows UKHSA to use the personal information collected by TARGET Antibiotics. The sections of the UK GDPR and the DPA that apply where we use personal information for TARGET Antibiotics are:

• UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) ‘consent’
• UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) ‘processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest’
